This is the 71st anniversary of Pearl Harbor.  Let’s remember those who gave their lives to defend the freedom that we enjoy as Americans.

The Northern Illinois University Huskies are heading to the Orange Bowl, becoming the first MAC Conference team to “bust the BCS.”  Regardless of what the excessively pompous and self-righteous ESPN commentator Kirk Herbstreit might say to the contrary, they deserve to be going, all they did this season was win 12 games.  So unlike Herbstreit let’s congratulate them and wish them well.  I know my son, an NIU sophomore, is excited to be attending the game.

  2. Thanks so much for the mention Roger! It totally had skipped my mind that today was the anniversary of Pearl Harbor. Having a History undergrad, you’d think I’d remember that. I could not agree more about Herbstreit. Sure, the BCS does need to be given the boot. But, they’re just upset because someone is crashing their party. I think it’s great for NIU and I personally hope they take it to Florida St.

You’re welcome John. My son just signed up for the bus trip to go down to the game, they’ve made it very affordable for kids (plus all students get a free game ticket if they want it). Maybe they’ll win, maybe not but should be a great experience for the team and the whole NIU community. It would also be great to see them beat Florida St. who Herbstreit picked as #1 before the season.
